Akhaura Pourashava at a Glance

Akhaura Municipality is located in the heart of Akhaura Upazila Sadar on the banks of Titas River. On December 12, 1999, Akhaura Municipality was formed in 09 wards with an area of about 8.33 square kilometers of Akhaura North Union and Akhaura South Union of Akhaura Upazila Sadar. The largest railway junction of Bangladesh is located in this municipality. There is a shrine of the famous Oli Hazrat Shah Syed Ahmad Geshudaraj Rahmatullahi Alaihi in Kharampur area in Ward No. 2 of the municipality and Hazrat Sher Ali Shah Rahmatullahi Alaihi in Taragon area in Ward No. 09 of the municipality. Besides, there is the central Radhamadhav Akhara of Hindus. Dhaka-Agartala International Highway passes through this municipality. The places of interest in this municipality include Hazrat Shah Syed Ahmad Geshu Daraz Rahmatullahi Alaihi Mazar Sharif, Central Radhamadhav Akhara, Akhaura Railway Junction, Akhaura Memorial, Central Municipal Martyrs Minar etc. Most of the people of this municipality are traders, expatriates and are engaged in other professions.
